Internet Pioneer and Former IETF Chair Dr. Paul Mockapetris Joins .NU Domain as Technical Advisor

As Technical Advisor, Dr. Mockapetris will help guide the build-out of .NU Domain’s technology and infrastructure to make it a leading TLD Registry services provider and domain name Registrar. Dr. Mockapetris is currently Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Urban Media Communications. He has held numerous top-level positions in successful Internet businesses including CTO for Cerent/Siara, CTO for Software.com, advisor to Ipivot, Director of Engineering for @Home, Director of the HPCC Division at USC/Information Sciences Institute, and Program Manager for Networking at ARPA.
During his career in networking, Dr. Mockapetris has developed many of the key technologies of the Internet. Dr. Mockapetris wrote the first implementation of Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), was the creator of the Domain Name System (DNS), and was its first implementor.
Dr. Mockapetris has a long record of service to the Internet community, including Chair of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), membership on the US Federal Networking Advisory Council, the Internet Architecture Board (IAB), and Chair of the IESG. He received his undergraduate degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and his Ph.D. in Information and Computer Science from the University of California, Irvine.

Mr. Ziola has 15 years experience in venture capital, high-tech start-ups, and Internet services. He is currently Director of Business Development at Microsoft/WebTV. During his career he has successfully guided a number of high-tech and Internet start-ups through the challenges of initial launch, capital fundraising, and high-growth. He has also worked with established technology, media, and network services companies in the US and internationally. Mr. Ziola has a Stanford MBA, and degrees from both Harvard and Brown Universities.
