.NU Domain Ltd's President, J. William Semich, Appointed To ICANN's DNSO Names Council

Medfield, MA, August 4, 1999 — .NU Domain Ltd (www.nunames.nu), the fastest growing Top Level Domain (TLD) name on the Internet, announced today that its president and chief executive officer, J. William Semich, has been appointed to the Names Council of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers' (ICANN) Domain Name Supporting Organization (DNSO). Semich was appointed to represent the Asia Pacific ccTLD (country code Top Level Domain) constituency members. He is one of only three ccTLD appointments to the 18 member Names Council.

The DNSO is one of three Supporting Organizations called for in the ICANN Bylaws. The DNSO advises the ICANN Board on all Domain Name System (DNS) policy issues --the system of names commonly used to identify Internet locations and resources. The domain name system translates easy-to-remember web and email addresses (like www.icann.org) into unique numeric IP addresses that have been assigned to specific computers on the Internet.

"We have been to all of the ICANN meetings since the birth of ICANN and have been a keen observer of Bill Semich's intense and invaluable efforts in assisting the Internet community to try to define itself and move forward," said Clive Flory, General Manager, Melbourne IT and Administrator of the com.au ccTLD domain space for Australia. "Bill has been at the forefront of all the debates and has provided direction and some vision to the Internet community. We have been grateful for Bill's involvement in the debate and for the great pragmatism he brings to the discussions. We believe that the broad Internet community and in particular the ccTLD Administrators are indebted to his very generous efforts in helping to define and manage the future of the Internet."

"We are pleased that Bill Semich has been appointed to a leadership role in this important Internet organization," said Stafford Guest, Secretary/Treasure of the Internet User's Society in Niue. "It is a great honor for Niue that the leading ccTLD managers in Asia selected him to represent them in this august Internet body." The .NU domain has been very beneficial to the island of Niue, he added. .NU Domain Ltd and its parent organization, the Internet Users Society - Niue (IUS-N), provide free Internet services to all the residents of the Polynesian island-nation of Niue.

The Names Council acts as a steering committee for the DNSO and is responsible for managing consensus and making recommendations to the ICANN Board regarding TLDs, including operation, assignment and management of the domain name system and other related subjects, as well as the selection of ICANN Directors. The next meeting of the Names Council will be at the ICANN meeting in Santiago, Chile, August 24-26, 1999.

Mr. Semich serves as the .NU Domain Ltd's president and CEO. Prior to his role at .NU Domain Ltd, Semich was Executive Editor of WebWeek/InternetWorld, Mecklermedia's weekly newspaper on the Internet. Before that he was Editor in Chief of Cahners Publishing's Datamation Magazine, winner of the Computer Press Association's ``Best Technical Magazine'' awards for 1994. Semich founded and built Datamation's Website, PlugIn Datamation, which received the prestigious Neal award for editorial excellence in 1996 in the New Media Category.

Before joining Cahners, Semich was founder and president of Boston Management Sciences, Inc., a financial management systems consulting firm who's principal practice was in public finance.

Semich holds a masters in money and banking/corporate finance from Tufts University and a BA with Distinction in English from Boston University.
